Auckland Losses

(N.Z. Press Association) \UCKLAND, March 3. Stock, pasture and encing losses suffered by farmers in floods throughout the province this week were today being assessed by several members of Parliament.

The Minister in charge of rehabilitation (Mr Kinsella) said today that farm damage on the western side of the Hauraki Plains was reckoned by farmers to be the worst they had ever suffered. “Hundreds of small farm bridges have just vanished, big pasture areas are covered by silt and by debris, and miles of fencing has been wrecked,” said Mr Kinsella,

who toured the plains yesterday. Advising holders of comprehensive insurance policies, which cover storm damage, to get their claims in as soon as possible, Mr Kinsella said he had arranged for an Earthquake and War Damage Commission assessor to inspect flood stricken areas. Other M.Ps. inspecting flood damaged areas today were the Minister of Works (Mr Allen), the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk), Mr P. A. Amos. M.P. for Manurewa. and Mr M. Moohan. M.P. for Petone. The Hauraki flood relief committee will meet tomorrow to assess damage reports and pass on findings to the Cabinet. Although stock losses are believed to be lighter than at first expected, a few farmers have had crippling losses.
