Just Plain Sailing
(N.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA, March 3. Sailing single-handed round the world was just a matter of staying clear of hurricanes and other ships, Mr H. Maurenbrecher said today before leaving Tauranga on the second stage of his lonely voyage. Mr Maurenbrecher will have his wife on board his 29ft scarlet-hulled sloop Takabora as far as Russell. After that it will be solo sailing for the next 15 months before he lands in his homeland, Holland. Mr Maurenbrecher is a
former lieutenant-general in the Royal Netherlands Air Force. He sailed the Takabora to New Zealand from Holland by way of the Panama Canal in nine months, arriving last April. He is completing his round-the-world voyage for two purposes: to reallise a long-standing ambition, and to get the necessary papers to allow him to return to New Zealand with his wife to settle. Mrs Maurenbrecher will travel ahead of her husband and will be waiting for him at each port of call.
