AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE

City Man In Talks

The president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (Mr C. W. Mace) yesterday returned to Christchurch from talks with the Australian Defence Advisory Council in Melbourne.

His company, Mace Engineering, Ltd., has a defence contract for the Department of Supply in Australia.

Mr Mace said he could not comment on the talks as they were a security matter. He said that New Zealand should start a defence advisory council on the Australian pattern. “This council in Australia assists in recommending to the Minister of Supply (Mr Denham Henty) on where Australian industry can help in defence supplies in the interests of security,” said Mr Mace.

He spent 12 days in Australia. In addition to attending the defence supply talks he visited Ministry of Supply factories.
