Applications To Retail Motor Spirits Granted

Applications for licences to retail motor spirits, were heard at a sitting of the Motor Spirits Licensing Authority in Christchurch yesterday. The authority comprises Mr J. W. Bain (chairman) and Messrs F. S. Taylor and G. Laurence. Licence Granted The Authority granted an application by T. W. Leatham, Ltd., for a licence to retail motor spirits from two pumps to be installed at a garage at 126 Racecourse road. Mr R. H. Bowron appeared for the applicant. The licence was granted on a temporary basis until March 31, 1968. with the condition that balance sheets be furnished during this time. New Garage Tekapo Garage, Ltd. (Mr J. R. Woodward) was granted an application to retail petrol from two pumps at a new service station and garage on the main highway at Tekapo. The licence was granted on a temporary basis until March 31 1968. Deletion An application by C. R. Waldron, 336 Wilsons road, Opawa (Mr R. Twyneham) for the dele-

tion from his licence of a condition prohibiting the display of material advertising the availability of petrol was granted by the Authority. Mr D. J. Clark appeared In objection for T. W. Taylor, Ltd., a nearby garage. His client’s company was in receivership and was just "breaking even” by tight control. He asked for the firm to be given more time to get on a firm footing. Part Heard An application by Nebrisco (Consolidated), Ltd. (Mr C. B. Atkinson) for licence to retail petrol from two pumps at garage premises on the main Pic-ton-Bluff highway at Waipara was adjourned part-heard. Mr D. J. Clark appeared in objection for Mrs K. A. Pringle. Mr J D. Upton appeared for the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association. Licence Granted A licence to retail motor spirits from two pumps to be installed at service station and garage premises on the corner of the Main South road and Epsom road. Sockburn, was granted Sockburn Motors. Ltd (Mr G. S. Brockett), In opposition were Nixons Garage, Ltd. (Mr R. G. Blunt) and Wigram Services, Ltd., and Curries’ Garage (Mr D. J. Clark). Mr J. O. Upton appeared for the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association.
