Pit Stops
The Christchurch driver, Jim Mullins tested his newly-acquired A4O Farina at Ruapuna Park this week, and recorded a lap in 53.5 seconds after only four laps. The track was wet in places and Rothmans was in poor condition at the time. Even so, he felt he could have cut another second from this time had he tried. The present saloon lap record, held by Mullins in his Mini Cooper S, is about 54.5 seconds. As yet the A4O, previously owned by Kerry Grant, has not been further modified. Mullins intends to do this when he is more used to the car, and is confident it can be made to develop considerably more power. S< & $ Winners of the 14th Canadian winter rally recently were P. MacLennan and J. Wilson in a works Ford Anglia. They lost only one point in 1300 miles. A Chevrolet Corvair came second, and a Ford Mustang was third. Anglias won the team prize. « * #
A. Andersson in a Saab won the international Swedish rally recently. An-
other Saab was second and a Volvo was third. No works teams finished. A works Lotus Cortina finished 10th overall and won its class. * Dan Gurney’s G.P. team, All American Racers, have entered four cars for the Indianapolis 500. All will be powered by Ford engines. One will be a Lotus-Ford, and the other three are at present under construction in the United States. sj S: * The French driver, J. agents in G.T. events this season. $ $ The owners of the Goodwood racing circuit in England have announced it will no longer be available for racing of any cars over three litres, including those of the new formula one. The circuit may now fall into disuse. * tjt * Saab has announced a new coupe called the Sonett, powered by the 850 Sports engine and transmission. A top speed of 105 m.p.h. is claimed. Production will start towards the end of this year.
