Little River Hall Discussed
The replacement of the Little River hall, destroyed by fire in November, was discussed by the Wairewa County Council
at its meeting yesterday. “The first thing would be to have a public meeting to get opinions,” said the chairman (Mr W. C. Miller). Cr. W. S. L. Mcßae said the council should put proposals before residents and be able to answer questions. There was talk of buying the private-ly-owned Triangle hall and renovating it. Mr Miller said it was a great opportunity to build a community centre with an adjacent bowling green. A cheque for £5157 in settlement of the insurance claim
on the old hall was paid into a hall replacement account. The council agreed to find out to what extent Golden Kiwi lottery profits could help, now a special rating area could be set up to pay for a new hall, and the selling price of the Triangle hall. A date for a meeting will be settled later. Flood Control.—Mr Miller said that March 7 had been fixed for a public meeting to discuss Little River flood-con-trol works. The North Canterbury Catchment Board gave an estimate of £5450 for willow-clearance and other work on the upper section of the Kaituna stream. The county share to be about £2OOO. Mr Miller was authorised to discuss the proposal with land-owners.
Water Supply.—-At Cr. Mcßae’s suggestion it was decided to set a report on the possibility of filtering the council water supply at Little River.
Sealing.—The road to the beach at Lake Forsyth had been sealed, it was reported. Mr Miller said that it was hoped to extend the Kinloch road seal by the end of March. Cr. K. H. Parkinson said he would like to see a programme for sealing all the flat roads. Discussion was deferred until after the county inspection in March.
