NEW TRAFFIC RULES

Extra Cost To Council The City Council would be faced with an extra £17,000 a year if the Transport Amendment Act (No. 2), 1965, was put into full effect, the works and services committee reported on Monday evening. The committee said it understood that the only vehicles exempt from the Transport Act for licences, heavy traffic fees and mileage tax, would be heavy roadmaking vehicles specially designed for the purpose, such as graders and rollers. The council agreed that there should be an approach to the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) to extend the exemption classification to something similar to the present, that local members of Parliament be asked for their support, and that the Municipal Association be asked to continue to seek relief.
