Boy Told He May Become Criminal
(New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE, February 8. Nineteen charges of burglary were admitted by a 10-year-old boy in the Gisborne Children’s Court yesterday. Eleven of these were committed alone, five in company of one companion and three with another.
“If you go on this way you'll become a criminal,” Mr L. N. Ritchie, S.M., told the boy, who was placed under the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare until he is 21. The third boy, who admitted ■ three pffences, was ordered 'to pay 15s restitution. Several other cases were heard involving burglary. The parents of a 10-year-old boy, who admitted four charges, were ordered to make restitution of £l3 12s 3d. The boy was placed under child welfare supervision for 18 months. A 14-year-old boy admitted three charges of burglary and
one of theft while “saving for a pair of riding boots.” The Magistrate placed him under child welfare supervision for 12 months and ordered £lO restitution. Five charges of burglary were admitted by a 13-year-old boy, who was ordered to pay £22 restitution and placed under the care of a child welfare officer for two years.
