Speculation, Says P.M.
(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 8. A newspaper report that the Government was believed to be considering cutting imports by 20 per cent in the next licensing year was described by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) today, as “pure speculation.” He said the Cabinet was still considering the 1966-67 import licensing schedule and no details had been made final. Asked if it was likely there would be import cuts, Mr Holyoake said: “I wouldn’t say.” The newspaper report said the abolition of the A licence importing scheme had been recommended to the Minister of Customs (Mr Shelton).
