Thom Returns To Play In Tourney
A late entrant for the Gold Leaf international tennis tournament, to be held at Wilding Park from tomorrow until Sunday, is the former Canterbury No. 1, W. Thom.
Thom left Christchurch last month intending to spend six months working in Auckland. However, he telephoned Mr J. Anderson, one of the
organisers of the tournament yesterday, requesting entry. It is thought he may stay in Christchurch after the tournament Thorq has been top of the Canterbury men’s ladder many times over recent seasons and he was second when he left. It was envisaged that, living in Auckland, he would still be able to represent Canterbury in the Wilding Shield if tire teams meet later this season. However, if Thom has returned, he will presumably be available for all representative matches. For this week's tournament. Thom has been placed in the first round draw against the promising Canterbury junior, L. Legge.
