Mrs Martin Wins Final Mrs J. Martin, who this season has won the Canterbury open and Canterbury women’s croquet championships, added to her season’s laurels by beating F. W. Gurnsey in the final of the South Island open championships yesterday. Mrs Martin took control of the first game and had a comfortable win. In the second game, however, the situation became tense towards the end, when both players missed medium distance shots, one of which, landing in baulk after Gurnsey had made 4-back. costing hem the game. Results: Open Championship Semi-final: F. N. Gurnsey (Christchurch) beat Mrs J. McCracken (Christchurch), 26-22, 26-6. Final: Mrs J. Martin (Christchurch) beat Gurnsey, 26-16, 26-22. Womens Championship.— First life, semi-final: Mrs McCracken beat Mrs L. Peters (Christchurch), 26-18.
