Homosexual Law Reform Plea

(N.Z.P A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 8. Five hundred prominent Britons, including church leaders, today petitioned Mr Wilson to reform laws controlling homosexual behaviour in Britain. The petition, prepared by the Homosexual law Reform Society, asked that the recommendation of the Wolfenden Committee in September, 1957, be passed into law “without further delay.” The main recommendation of the Wolfenden Committee was that homosexual be-

haviour between consenting adults should be no longer a criminal offence. The society’s move comes four days before a House of Commons debate on an allparty bill aimed at legalising homosexual acts between consenting adults. Last year, the Earl cf Arran managed to get a similar bill through the Lords, but as the session ended before it could be presented to the Commons it was automatically killed. Signatories of the petition included 31 churchmen — among them the Archbishop of York—a former British Prime Minister, Ear! Attlee, and the novelist, Graham Greene.
