NEW RADIO TELESCOPE.—The 35-ton steel framework of the dish of a new radio telescope, 85½ft in diameter, being lifted in one piece and placed in position at Chilbolton, Hampshire. The operation was carried out for Associated Electrical Industries, Ltd., on behalf of the Ministry of Public Building and Works. The telescope will be used by the Radio and Space Research Station of the Science Research Council to investigate problems associated with satellite radio communications, radio waves emitted from the sun and planets, and the propagation of waves through the troposphere.
