TO MEET U.S. SWIMMERS

Miss Shipston Sponsored

The disappointment felt by Tui Shipston on missing her medley race against the American girls on Saturday because of illness has been dispelled through the initiative of the Canterbury Swimmers’ Group.

The group has made arrangements to sponsor the outstanding backstroke and medley swimmer to Napier one day ahead of her scheduled trip with the Canterbury team to the national championships so that she can swim against the visitors in their farewell carnival. Representatives of the group were in contact with officials of the Hawke's BayPoverty Bay centre yesterday and arrangements were made for Miss Shipston to swim against the Americans in a 440 yards medley event on the night of February 19.
