Fijian Film Star
(N.Z. Press Association? AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. The Fiji Police Force has lost possibly its bestknown identity SubInspector Leone Lesi, “the man with the big hair." After 21 years in the force he has resigned to take up a film contract which will take him to New Zealand, Australia and, later, to the United States, says a Suva report. Inspector Lesi was the only man among the police who was allowed to retain the famous Fijian hairstyle when the order went out to the
force that everyone must cut their hair. He said at the time: •‘lf I have to cut my hair it will be from the throat up,” and made the appropriate gesture. His exceptional stand of hair made him a striking figure, known to tens of thousands of tourists. Last year the Police Force allowed him to act in a series of fictional television films which an Australian company made in Fiji. It is understood that he has been offered a long-term contract not just because of his hair but because of his ability as an actor.
