Mr Kirk Chastised
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. The Prime Minister, Mr Holyoake, tonight chastised the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Kirk, for his remarks made today on a Rugby team to tour South Africa. Mr Kirk, referring to the Prime Minister’s policy statement on racial discrimination last night, said: “I am very pleased indeed to see that the Prime Minister’s statement fundamentally supports the Labour policy.” Mr Holyoake said tonight: “The pathetic attempt by Mr Kirk to pretend that the Government’s opposition to an All Black tour of South •Africa without Maoris was only following Labour Party policy was a pitiable move to bring the issue into the arena of party politics.” “It raised sad memories of Labour’s sorry record in this matter when they were the Government in 1960, and which they now understandably, wished to sweep under the carpet,” Mr Holyoake said.
