SJ. CROQUET TITLES

Mitchell Again Successful F. W. Gurnsey and L. J. Mitchell easily won the final of the South Island croquet championships. Their opponents, J. McNab and Mrs McNab, were not hitting long shots in their usual style and offered little opposition. This victory gave Mitchell the doubles title for the second successive year. His partner last season was R. H. Abbott, also a Fendaiton 'Park player, who is at present overseas.

Mrs J. Martin (Christchurch) beat A. E. Saaifeld (New South Wales') in two straight games in a semi-final of the open championship. A very exciting finish marked the final of the first Mfe in the men’s championship between Gurnsey and Mitchell. The match reached an exciting climax when Mitchell left one of Gurnsey’s balls in baulk. Gurnsey took the lift, and with a cut rush drove his partner's ball towards the peg to win the match by one point. Results:— Open Championship Semj-final.—Mrs J. Martin (Christchurch) beat A. E.
