Third Day Of Surf Titles

The holding of the third day of the Canterbury surf championships at Waimairi tomorrow presents a problem for some of the provinces leading competitors. The 10 members of the Canterbury representative team will be competing in the inter-provincial carnival at Wellington today. After this intense competition and a night on the ferry they will hardly be in the best of shape for a championship carnival arid this could have a bearing on the outcome of several of the championships. The finals of the senior, junior and women’s six-man championship are the main events of the carnival. South Brighton, the present national champion, and Taylors Mistake appear to be the main contenders for the senior title. The junior individual surf race, the senior teams’ surf race, fourman alarm events and a junior paddleboard race are other main events on the programme.
