Lambs’ Wool Warning

rpHE robber rings used to x castrate lambs mean trouble to manufacturers if they get into the wool, the field director of the Wool Board, Mr W. G. Bowen, said in Wellington. “They cause serious damage,” he said.

“We know of one woolbuying firm that has had to pay compensation for this and there have been other complaints from overseas that rings and purses have been getting into the machinery.” If this continues, the lambs’ wool trade could suffer a sev-

ere penalty.” Mr Bowen said purses and rings caught in the crutch wool were best removed by the farmer before the lambs went onto the shearing board Although many were tossed aside by shearers in the course of a year, it was too easy for them to pass unnoticed on the board. It was a fairly simple matter to check the wether lambs in the yards beforehand. Otherwise, the seconds lambs’ wool should be checked across the table.
