Diploma Exam. Successes
Four Christchurch candidates won first prizes in diploma examinations held by the New Zealand Institute of Management at the end of last year. They are: J. E. Doggett (commercial administration I), K. R. Mclntyre (retail! administra Won), D. L. Coulter (retail merchandising and salesmanship), D. W. Martin (industrial general management). Christchurch candidates who gained places were F. P. Harris (second, commercial administration I), B. W. Cleland (second, commercial administration II), F. Niven (second, personnel management); G, J. Upritchard (equal third, production management); D. J. Grant (third, industrial general management).
For New Zealand 3523 examinations were sat, 454 in the Canterbury Division's area. Therefore, four first prizes out of 14 subjects was a fine achievement, said the division's manager (Mr R. E. Gilensor). Auckland candidates gained five firsts, Wellington two. Napier and Dunedin one each, and one first prize went to a candidate from Malacca.
Grass Fires.—The Christchurch Fire Brigade attended three grass fires, in Sydenham, North New Brighton and Papanui, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. yesterday. The fires caused no damage to property.
