FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anti-cyclone over the northeast Tasman Sea extends over most of New Zealand; a slow moving frontal zone lies over Southland. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Moderate easterlies in most coastal areas; fresh gusty north-westerlies predominating inland; mainly fine and warm, but a few showers developing in the Alps after noon. Outlook: mainly fine.

Marlborough. Moderate north-westerlies; mainly fine, with high afternoon temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy.

Nelson.—Westerly winds; cloudy about the western ranges, with a few light showers; elsewhere partly cloudy and mild. Outlook: cloudy, with some rain.

Buller and Westland.—Moderate northerlies; light rain in the south slowly spreading northwards; a few heavy showers in the Westland ranges; mild temperatures. Outlook: unsettled with rain.
