A Matter Of Masculinity
(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter —Copyright) MOSCOW, Jan. 31. Russia’s only giant panda is gorging himself on hardboiled eggs and birch twigs so he can present a manly image to a matchmaker from London. Tass said today that the 5501 b black-and-white panda. An-An, was building himself up to impress a British zoo official with his virile beauty and strength. The official w?js expected
on Friday to resume talks on mating An-An with Chi-Chi, a female panda in the London Zoo.
Both are among only a dozen giant pandas in captivity. A previous attempt t« arrange a get-together in 1964 fell through because An-An then had a bad temper and because, as one Russian expert put it: “The manliness of our panda seems to be in some d. übt.”
