Opera Company’s Manager Resigns

WELLINGTON, Feb. 3.
The general manager of the New Zealand Opera Company (Mr Ulric Williams) has resigned and will leave his position in March.
The chairman of the board of directors of the opera company, Mr F. Turnovsky, said today that the resignation had “nothing to do with the present dispute with the Queen Elizabeth 11 Arts Council.” Mr Williams would not comment on his resignation “1 will only say that I resigned before Christmas and gave three months’ notice," he said. Mr Williams, who was a director of the company for many years, resigned as a director two years ago to become general manager, a new position.
He said today he would not seek reappointment to the board as a director. Before taking over the fulltime position as general manager of the opera company. Mr Williams worked in advertising. Before that he was the manager of the shortwave service of Radio New Zealand. Mr Turnovsky said that Mr Williams had resigned for private reasons. “The position has been advertised in New Zealand and Australia and there have been numerous applications,” he said.
