Back To School— And Cut Lunches

Children have now started school for 1966 and once again mothers have the problems of sandwich fillings for cut lunches. These days it is easier for housewives to avoid monotony in the sandwiches they make.
Today grocers can offer small packs of raisins, date cubes, sandwich spreads and cold meats, as well as such newer lines as salami and frankfurters, to add variety to cut lunches. Back-to-sehool also means back to regular trading for grocers.
Maizo products: Widespread effects are expected from the recent drought In South Africa, and failure of the maize crop there. As well as being a staple diet, maize is used in quantity for the production of corn oil. Both cornflour and corn oil may increase in. price. Maize oil in particular has been firming for the last 18 months and this could possibly affect all oil prices. Greaseproof paper: New Zealand manufactured greaseproof paper Is again in short supply and distributors are waiting for stocks from the mill. The shortage started last ' year and it is felt this has not been fuliy overcome.
Ceylon Tea: Over the last few weeks the Ceylon tea market has been firming and this week’s quotations are again slightly dearer. Ceylon is still having labour problems and advice received this week indicates that some tea has been shut off the Wainui and will now be coming on the Wairata. These irregular shipments are a problem to importers, making it difficult to keep ample stocks on hand.
Californian prunes: Over the last year or so more Californian prunes have been appearing on the New Zealand market and have become much larger sellers than Australian prunes. Recent Californian quotations show that prices there are firming. Some packers are accepting forward orders at current prices and will ship them to suit importers.
English salt: It is reported that shipping companies are reducing freight rales to New Zealand for English salt to compensate for the recently increased New Zealand wharf handling charges.
Easter eggs: Easter is really not so far away and one manufacturer has a gimmick to boost sales. Reckitt and Colman (New Zealand). Ltd., is introducing a trade parcel known as “Shoppers Super. This has a buying Incentive for grocers, and the public is to receive ah Easter egg with each of these products: Reckitts Lavender, Harpic small. Twin Care. Oven Stick and 6oz Country Air. These also will be offered at a reduced price.
