FASHION GROUP DISBANDING

After more than eight years of pioneering export promotion of the British ready-to-wear fashion industry, the Fashion House Group of London is disbanding.

Its object—to make London the ready-to-wear fashion centre of the world—has been achieved, said a recent statement from the organisation. The group’s twice-yearly London Fashion Weeks have become a focal point for overseas buyers visiting Britain. The spectacular presentations at the start of the weeks have been opened by such guests as Princess Marina, Princess Alexandra and successive presidents of the Board of Trade. Boosted Exports Wherever the group has held shows—in Moscow, Paris, Berlin and London—they have been acclaimed as the most professional events of their kind. The successful hard-selling operations, which have followed, have boosted the country’s export figures progressively each season and have set a standard to the world. U.S. Promotion The culmination of these achievements came when the Fashion,; House Group of London was asked by the British Government to organise, on behalf of the fashion industry, “British

Fashion—U.S.A., ’66.” With the assistance of the Cunard Steamship Company, a show was presented on board the Queen Elizabeth in New York Harbour in November, 1965. This has been called “the greatest sea victory since Trafalgar.” The sales drive, which followed, achieved its target and is certain in the long term to reflect on the fashion export figures from Britain to the United States.
