ORDER FROM RAILWAYS

Trade Mission Success

“I’ve just received an order from the New Zealand Government Railways for £150,000 worth of railway base plates for use in track renewals,” said a member of the 15-man Birmingham trade mission to New Zealand (Mr P. A. Moll and) on his arrival in- Christchurch yesterday. “That is not bad business,” he said. “I have been here five days.”

Mr Molland is the sales director of Round Oak Steel Works, Ltd. (open-hearth, electric-arc, carbon and alloy steels). The mission, he said, had been successful.

Another mission member, Mr J, H. Walker, the general sales manager of George Salter and Company, Ltd. (springs, spring balances and weighing machines) said that in spite of difficulties of licensing he had already had “some little success” with sales. He did not want to disclose how large his sales were because, as president of the British Hardware Manufacturers’ Association, he was looking after interests of other members of his association.

A mission member, Mr R. Morgan, the managing director of A. J. Morgan and Son (Lye), Ltd. (sheet metal working machinery), said that though he had not made any actual sales, he had some very good promises, already.
