CAR LEFT ROAD

Timaru Man Killed

(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Feb. 3. A man was killed instantly when his car left the State Highway two miles north of Timaru at 1.30 this morning. He was Ernest Isman Johnston, aged 45, an assistant funeral director, of 32 Sefton street, Timaru.

Mr Johnston was alone in the car, which crashed headon into a telegraph pole. An inquest for indentification purposes was opened before the District Coroner (Mr E. G. Bradley) this morning and adjourned sine die. Up to 11 p.m. today 35 road deaths have been reported to tie Transport Department this year. At this time last year 46 had been reported. The toll for February so far is one. At the same time last February four had died.
