MISSING DEVICE
Submarine For Spain
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) OTIS AIR FORCE BASE (Massachusetts), Feb. 3. A United States Air Force plane carrying a midget submarine to hunt for a missing nuclear device left last night for Spain. Officials believe they have pinpinted the device’s location 1000 ft below the sea. The departure of the 13-ton submarine named “Alvin” was delayed for several days because of weather and by faulty navigational equipment aboard the cargo plane. The submarine is expected to be used in a hunt along the depths of the Mediterranean where officials believe the bomb fell. The bomb was aboard one of two Air Force planes which collided over Spain recently. The “Alvin” is capable of making dives of at least 6000 ft, and has external arms for work at great depths.
