Chathams Airport

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, February 3. The Government has decided to go ahead immediately with detailed site and engineering surveys for an aerodrome on the Chatham Islands.

This was announced today by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath). The aerodrome would be suitable for use by Bristol freighter aircraft at the proposed Big Bush site on the Chatham Islands.

Mr Seath said that although a preliminary assessment has been obtained as a result of an earlier survey of possible sites, it was now necessary to carry out a more detailed site investigation and fuller engineering survey to obtain a reasonably close estimate of the project’s total cost.
