Charteris Bay Land Acquisition
Sir,—The recent decision of the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board, upholding the action of the Mount Herbert County Council in taking land at Charteris Bay. is disturbing to other land owners in the vicinity. Apparently the council, members of which are practically all farmers, are more concerned with catering for picnickers and litterbugs, who oay nothing tn the county funds, than with the farming community who pay the rates and produce what the country requires. The land in question is practically the backyard of a farm homestead, and is essential to the owner. As a parking area or picnic ground it would be a death trap, the entrance being on a turn, with poor visibility in both directions. I would suggest that these councillors give a thought to their own back vards.—Yours, etc., ANOTHER LAND OWNER. February 2, 1966.
