Police Conduct

Sir,—l have been asked a direct question by “Justice.” My answer is that if I aggravated a police officer by continued prevarication I would expect retaliation. Your correspondent introduces the word “brutality,” and says it was condoned by the Court. To the best of my knowledge brutality as we accept the word, and as defined in our dictionaries, has never been proven against the New Zealand police force. I think the most severe critic of the police will accept that statement. “Justice” says in dealing with modern civilisation that the blame for its shortcomings should be placed where it belongs. This is not with the oolice force because they are doing their best to remedy the wrongs as prescribed by modern legislation. All they ask is co-operation not criticism from such as “Justice.”— Yours, etc..
