B.A.C. 1-11

Sir, —May I take the opport .nity through your columns of thanking the people of Christchurch for the warmhearted reception which they gave all the members of the B A.C. 1-11 world tour demonstration team whilst they were in Christchurch. The tr.any kindnesses shown to each and every one of us has made it clear that our visit was of interest to the people of your city. I notice that one of your correspondents has accused us of using “hard sell” methods. I am delighted about this because, for sure, in this highly competitive world unless we, in the U.K., try our hardest to sell our goods throughout the world we will not survive. I believe that the survival of Great Britain and all she stands for in this modern world is of importance to all of us.—Yours, etc.,

ROGER WHITE-SMITH. Tour Leader, British Aircraft Corporation (Operating), Ltd. February 2, 1966.

Sir, —“Observer” chose to minimise the prudence of fostering goodwill between this country and its best customer, but New Zealand simply cannot afford to imperil an essential outlet for her primary products. No doubt “Observer” has also an ingenious explanation of the value of a recommendation which supposedly favours an aircraft which (a) has never been seen (b) has never flown, and (c) does not in fact exist.—Yours, etc., PIG IN POKE. February 2, 1966.
