Robin Dundee Could Still Race In U.S.
(New Zealand Press Association)
INVERCARGILL. There is still a chance New Zealand's champion pacing mare Robin Dundee may race in America. Her owner, Mr J. W. Hewitt, of Mataura Island, said yesterday he had asked Yonkers (New York) Raceway president, Mr Martin Tannanbaum, to put his proposition in writing, mainly from the later breeding angle, and afterwards he was prepared to discuss the conditions with Mr Tananbaum.
Robin Dundee is at present in Sydney where she will race in the Inter-Dominion Championship series starting next Saturday. Mr Hewitt will not make the trip to Sydney, but his wife left for Sydney on Tuesday.
Last season Mr Tananbaum approached Mr Hewitt about Robin Dundee racing In the Yonkers International series,
but the conditions were not suitable.
Mr Hewitt planned to retire Robin Dundee at the end of the present series in Sydney and only recently decided to keep her in work with a view to racing her at the next New Zealand Cup meeting. When advised of the change in plans Mr Tananbaum immediately attempted to contact Mr Hewitt and on Tuesday the Yonkers Raceway public relations officer, Mr Irving Rudd, discussed proposals by telephone with Mr Hewitt. No decision was made but Mr Hewitt asked for the conditions to be put in writing.
