* “The Press" Special Service WANGANUI. The jockey, W. D. Skelton, is fast approaching his 1000th riding success. After last week-end’s racing his tally stood at 996 and it is possible that the 1000th victory may be recorded at the Wanganui Jockey Club’s two-day summer meeting, which opens this week-end. When Skelton has 1000 wins he will be one of a select trio for W. J. Broughton and L. J. Ellis are the only other New Zealanders with this total.

However, at 33 years, Skelton will have attained this gaol at a much younger age. In between the Wanganui two-day fixture Skelton will travel south for next Tuesday’s CJ.C. meeting at Riccarton.

Mounts For Hughes "The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. The Auckland jockey, G. F. Hughes, will travel to Christchurch on Friday and will ride at Riccarton on Saturday. He has been engaged to ride for the Riccarton Tutton stable at the Canterbury Jockev Club's two-day meeting and wiU return to Auckland on Tuesday night. Runners for the Tutton stable on Saturday are Stageland and I Last Dip. :
