FERRY CARS
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Feb. 2
Since the Maori went back into service as a roll-on, rolloff ferry on December 15, she has carried 4500 cars. The vessel has also carried a large number of cargo trolleys but the exact figure was not available. Although the Maori has not carried a very much larger number of cars since her conversion, the handling of both cars and cargo has been far greater. The managing-director of the Union Steam Ship Company (Mr F. K. Macfarlane) said the whole operation of the Maori bad gone smoothly and satisfactorily. Mr Macfarlane said that when the Wahine came into service there would be a greater appreciation of the handling of passengers and their cars when both ships are on together. The expected date for the delivery of the Wahine to the Union Company was the last week in March at the builder's yards if all went according to plan, Mr Macfarlane said.
