ZOMBA (Malawi), Feb. 2.

Medson Evans Silombela. the rebel leader whom the Malawi Prune Minister. Dr Banda, has said he wanted publicly hanged, was executed at Zomba prison today, an official of the Prisons Department announced. Relatives of people Silombela was alleged to have murdered watched the execution.

Silombela was convicted last November 15 of murdering Ali Mbawa, a district chairman of the ruling Malawi Congress Party on July 12. A bill providing for public hanging was passed unanimously by the Malawi Parliament in November.
