‘Loot’ From N.Z.

(New Zealand Press Association)

ROTORUA, Feb. 2.

Several tons of New Zealand countryside is on its way in paper bags and cartons to scientists all over the world. It is the “loot” collected by delegates to the international symposium on volcanology held here last November and December.

The material, mostly rocks from mountainsides, was picked up by the scientists as they

ranged throughout the country on field tours. Airline baggage restrictions prevented many from taking their booty with them so the New Zealand Geological Survey undertook to pack and dispatch it by sea. The rocks were packed in multi-wailed paper bags and then in 111 b cartons.

Most of the dispatching was handled by the Auckland office and a small quantity by Rotorua staff.
