S. Island Croquet
I J. CAMPBELL, of Hamil- ” * ton. the holder of the South Island open croquet championship, will defend his title when the championships start at Christchurch on January 28 rather than participate in the North Island championships which are being held in Wellington at the same time.
South Island tournaments have treated Campbell well. Last year he won the open and men’s championships and won the New Zealand gold mallet in Dunedin last November.
The holder of the women’s title, Mrs H. Dempsey, Waimate, will again be competing and this spectacular player is certain to have a large gallery. She is an aggressive player, confident in her own ability, and runs some phenomenal hoops.
The games will be played at the United Club’s lawns and the Canterbury Croquet Association is anticipating a very successfuUttournament because of the calibre of the entries.
