SNOW IN BRITAIN

40 Counties Affected

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 17. Snow, frost and hazardous road conditions affected most of Britain today. As snow continued to fall steadily in London and southeast England weathermen warned it could go on for aeveral days. Although main roads throughout the country were fairly clear, side roads—hardpacked with frozen snow and ice—proved particularly treacherous for motorists in Kent and Surrey. About 1000 road workers and 200 snow ploughs were in action in the 40 counties affected by the weather. They were hampered by many abandoned cars.
