TROTTING Tracey Hanover Picked For Invercargill
“The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL. Tracey Hanover, in the Flying Handicap, and Merry' Morning, in the Invercargill Cup, will be a strongly fancied double combination on the second day of the Invercargill Trotting Club’s New Year twilight meeting today.
Tracey Hanover was a winner at Winton and the sprint distance of the Flying Handicap will suit him as he is a competent front runner.
Merry Morning won the Gore Cup on a heavy track at his last start and will be suited by a track which will again be cutting out. Steady rain has fallen in the last two days. The sprinters in the Flying Handicap, the first leg of the double, promise an interesting clash. Bill Adonis probably will be the favourite and, on the strength of his runaway success on Saturday, he could prove a difficult horse to beat. His record of three successes from five starts is impressive.
Gay Paree will not be condemned for her first-day failure. At no stage of the President’s Handicap did she get out of the ruck, and in the circumstances her run from the rear of the field for fourth was exceptionally good. Her latest form has been consistently good.
Newcomer Money wise, from J. L. Ferguson’s Tinwald team, will be a newcomer entitled to respect. He failed to make much impression at Timaru, but won at his two previous starts in convincing style. Prince Garry will be suited by the sprint distance. He finished a good fourth at Winton at his latest start, and in a similar field will be expected to do well. Tracey Hanover won from end to end at Winton, but over two miles at Invercargill on Saturday he weakened to eighth after being the pacemaker for a mile and five furlongs. Tracey Hanover’s front running tactics could see him a difficult horse to beat in this field. Selections: —
