Long Voyage Not Leisurely
f.X'.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA. Jan. IS. Long coastal passages in sailing craft and commercial fishing vessels are not uncommon in New Zealand waters, but the time taken on the voyage of the pleasure launch. Sans Souci, from Dunedin to Tauranga. must be something of a record. Skippered by her owner, Mr S. J. Algie, form..- commodore of the Otago Yacht and PowerBoat Club, the Sans
Souci left Dunedin on December 29, and after being delayed by gales, storms and fog, arrived at Mount Maunganui at 8.30 p.m., yesterday. The 40ft launch began her Dunedin-Auckland cruise with a crew of four. including the owner.
Alan Pearce left her in Timaru after he suffered a recurrence of a stomach complaint. He was replaced by Douglas Blagdon. Wilson Munro left her in Wellington when his
holidays ran out. and John Meikle left her in Gisborne when he ran short of time ,'lso. Mr Algie aid Mr Blagdon carried on by themselves from Gi.borne with watches cut to two hours on and two off. “I am sure we have left all the rough weather behind us." Mr Algie said today as he relaxed on the deck in brilliant sunshine under a blue sky. "This is the weather we came north for. It took some doing, but we made it."
