RESIGNATION FROM M.L.C.
Executive Has Stepped Down (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Jan. 18. Dr. Alfred H. Pollard. 49. deputy-getnerail manager and
director of M.L.C., Ltd., has resigned after more than 25 years with the company His resignation was for personal reasons, he said last night, adding, “I would rather not go into details.”
Asked whether his resignation had anything to do with losses incurred in the H. G. Palmer (Consolidated), Ltd., electrical chain take-over, Dr. Pollard sadd, “naturally what has happened in the last couple of years does affect one’s personal view of things.” His resignation from the No. 2 executive position in the M.L.C. and from group directorships took effect from yesterday. Joined in 1936 He joined the M.L.C. as a clerk in 1936 after graduating in science from Sydney University, trained as an actuary with the M.L.C. and obtained his Ph.D at the London School of Economics. When M.L.C. bought the H. G. Palmer chain of 143 electrical appliance stores In a £4. Im share exchange in 1963 Dr. Pollard was appointed a director of H. G. Palmer (Consolidated). He was engaged almost full time on H. G. Palmer affairs until a receiver was appointed on October 25.
Dr. Pollard said last night that he intended having a spell, after which he would start thinking about his future.
