Aust. Meter Maid Cold
The Surfer’s Paradise meter maid, Miss Terri Hughes, has one aim—to get through her stay in Rotorua without an outbreak of goose-pimples. The Rotorua weather is cooperating. The bikini-clad meter maid does not want to offend Rotorua by donning her “cold weather” costume—gold lame skin-tight slacks with a highcollar top. She found the breez- cool this morning and donned her gold lame cloak. By Rotorua standards, it was a fine, warm day. A Rotorua Maori meter maid, Miss June Northcroft, said she was disturbed by the many people who stood openmouthed, gaping at her bikiniclad companion. The girls have found that many motorists are working a “racket” in a bid to get a free trip to Surfer’s Paradise. Some motorists are deliberately parking on expired meters in the hope that Miss Hughes will place a gold courtesy card on their vehicle. One of the cards will win a holiday for two at Surfer’s Paradise. Aware of this ruse, the meter maids are not placing the gold cards on cars with Rotorua number plates. Instead they are putting a Rotorua card on the vehicles.
