NEW TESTING STATION
Joint Action By Councils
The Waimairi and Paparua County Councils and the Riccarton Borough Council have taken the first steps towards raising £40.000 to build and equip a jointly-operated vehicle-testing station. Waimairi will raise £24.000, Paparua £11.600, and Riccarton £4400 Decisions to do this will be confirmed at the next ordinary meetings of the councils. Riccarton, the last of the three to do so, passed its special order resolution at a special meeting this week. The testing station will be built in the Paparua County Council's yard at Sockburn, and. with access from the Main South road and Blenheim road, will serve the western side of the city. In April, the Local Authorities Loans Board held up applications for the loan for nine months, and observed that while the testing station might be desirable, it could not be considered essential. The three councils were asked by the board in November whether they wished to proceed, and all agreed to do I so. The board subsequently !gave peijjiission for the loan.
