FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A weakening ridge of high pressure lies over northern New Zealand. A trough of low pressure over the Tasman Sea is moving eastwards. Forecast: Canterbury and the. Kaikoura coast.— Variable winds about the coast; north-wester-lies freshening at times inland; mainly cloudy and warm; rain in the western high country, heavy at times, and some scattered mainly light rain at times elsewhere. Buller and Westland.—North-westerlies freshening at times; overcast skies and rain, heavy at times, especially in the south; mild temperatures. Marlborough.—North-westerlies, strong in and about Cook Strait with scattered drizzle patches; rain spreading later in the day; warm. Nelson. —North-westerlies strong in exposed northern areas, northerlies, mainly moderate, elsewhere; cloudy; rain in the western ranges; occasional rain elsewhere later in the day; warm.
