Traffic Control
Sir, —The City Council traffic superintendent has a difficult job, and I am reluctant to put him on the spot, but in the public interest he cannot be permitted to dodge these vital issues. I could not have been more specific about the obstruction at the intersection of Tuam and Antigua streets without naming the firm concerned. Not 10 minutes ago, as I write this, both streets were obstructed by large vehicles double-parked. The question of lane markings in Moorhouse avenue is even more specific, for I wrote to the traffic superintendent on October 8, 1964. I had a reply from Mr J. F. Thomas, but nothing was done, and, with your permission, I am prepared to make an issue of this matter alone.—Yours, etc.,
VARIAN J. WILSON. January 10, 1966. [The City Council traffic superintendent (Mr J. F Thomas) replies: “Mr Wilson recently accepted my invitation to call and we discussed in detail the matters referred to in this and his previous letters. The discussion was most amicable, and we saw fit to actually inspect the areas where he considered improvements could be effected. His suggestions have been noted and will be fully investigated with the traffic engineer at an early date. Regarding the laning in Moorhouse avenue this will again be mentioned to the Ministry of Works which is the controlling authority of State highways.”]
