Obituary MR A. H. T. BRAZIER

One of the most highly qualified aircraft engineers in New Zealand, Mr Arthur Herbert Thomas Brazier, airframe manager of Aiirwork (New Zealand), Ltd., died suddenly at his home in Christchurch on Saturday. He was 59. Mr Brazier was an associate of the Royal Aeronautical Society, London, Born in Pretoria, South Africa, Mr Brazier went to England as a young man and trained at the Royal Air Force apprentices’ school at Halton. From 1925 to 1930, he served with the Royal Air Force in Britain, Iraq, and India. Mr Brazier came to New Zealand in 1930. Almost immediately on his arrival in Christchurch, he joined the Canterbury Aero Club, under Captaiin J. C. Mercer, who was well known as a commercial pilot on the West Coast. In 1935-36, Mr Brazier was chief engineer for East Coast Airways. On its absorption by Union Airways in 1936, Mr Brazier founded in Wellington the aviation firm, Airwork, Ltd., with his brother, Mr C. H. Brazier.

Duding the Second World War, Mr Brazier was chief inspector for the de HaviHand Aircraft Company of New Zealand, Ltd., based in Wellington, from 1940 to 1944, and while serving with the Royal New Zealand Air Force was its director of aircraft production. In post-war years, Mr Brazier was a squadron leader in the R.N.Z.A.F. Reserve. He is survived by his wife, and a son.

MR H. S. DUDDING (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. Mr Horace Stanley Dudding, prominent in local body affairs and sporting circles in the Hutt Valley for many years, died in the Hutt Hospital on Saturday after a short illness, aged 76. He was a retired plumber. Born in Ashhurst and educated at Wanganui and Hutt, Mr Dudding lived in Lower Hutt for 65 years. He was well known for his work on the Hutt River Board, to which he was first elected in 1947. He served as chairman from that date until 1960.

Mr Dudding was elected to the Lower Hutt City Council in May, 1941, and served for two terms. He also served on the Hutt Valley Electric Power and Gas Board and the Wellington Metropolitan Milk Board. He was the founder of the Tui Glen Golf Club, captain of the Hutt Cricket Club for many years, and a past president of the Hutt Bowling Club.
