The daughter of an executed Assyrian tribal chief has joined the Kurdish uprising against the Iraqi Government with 700 riflemen, according to a Teheran newspaper. The paper printed a front page picture of the girl, Shemirum, and said she had joined the rebels, led by Mulla Mustafa Barzani, in revenge for the alleged execution of her father, Estiphan, by the Iraqi Government two years ago. Now his daughter is leading her own army of “Razan” tribesmen. Heavy fighting between Barzani's rebels and Iraqi Government forces in the Kirkuk i and Soleimanieh regions has been reported during the last 48 hours.
