Nine More Burglaries

Nine burglaries, four attempted burglaries, and six thefts from cars during the weekend were reported to the police yesterday.

Money and articles valued at more than £270 were stolen.

A cash-box and money, to a total value of £8 10s, were stolen from the premises of Lite House Equipment, Ltd., 98 Oxford terrace. The cashbox was later found in the Avon river.

A radio, cigarettes, and whisky, of a total value of £37 18s, were stolen from a house in Annex road. Thieves removed the wire gauze over a toilet window of a cake kitchen in Gloucester street to make their entry, and stole £6.

A gold wrist-watch valued at £52 10s was stolen from where it had been left on a dinghy in a private section at Akaroa.

Goods, including cigarettes, valued at £43 were taken from Clarke’s Dairy, Stanmore road. The thieves gained entry by forcing the street door. A flat in Cashel street was entered, and £4 10s was taken. Property valued at £7 was taken from a house in Aylmer street on Sunday night. A house in Montreal street was entered on Saturday and a radio worth about £l5 was taken.

A person who entered a house in Gloucester street on Sunday was disturbed by the occupier and made off. Nothing was taken. Early yesterday morning an intruder in a house in St Andrew’s

square was disturbed and made off.

Unsuccessful attempts were made to ente" a shop on the corner of Ham and Creyke roads, a grocery shop in Southey street, a dental surgery in Cashel street, and a shop in Linwood avenue. A tape recorder valued at £2O was taken from a car parked in Cashel street, an electric razor and a radio speaker valued at £9 10s were taken from a car parked in Kipling street, a telescopic aerial valued at £1 10s was taken from a car sparked in Worcester street, a radio valued at £l5 i was taken from a car parked outside the Central Hotel in Lichfield street, and in Yaldhurst road articles valued at £29 were taken from one car and articles valued at £22 were taken from another.
