COURSES AT WIGRAM

100 Men Begin Training

One hundred young man had started in the R.N.Z.A.F. this week, said an Air Force spokesman at Wigram station on Friday. Of these, 46 started in aircrew and officer training, 22 started airmen cadet course training, and others started a Civil Aviation Department communications course.

The starting of cadet courses at Wigrani, he said, was a departure. Normally airmen cadet training was done at Woodbourne. At present Woodbourne had about 100 airmen cadets and Wigram 22. Wigram also had several adult airmen recruit courses. The station had five Air Training courses of three weeks. In this time, they would carry out about 10 hours’ flying in Harvard trainers. The cadets-had been picked from various squadrons in New Zealand.

In the last few days members of the Central Flying School aerobatic team had been rehearsing in Harvards near Wigram for the official opening of Mangere Airport this month.
